The bodies of 25 migrants have now been found in a mass grave in a forest reserve in Malawi’s northern district of Mzimba.
“Evidence collected at the scene shows that the victims are Ethiopian nationals,” a statement from Malawi police said.
It added that all victims are male aged between 25 and 40.
The authorities say they are investigating the cause of death.
Police say they have “intercepted” 221 migrants since the beginning of the year and 186 of them were Ethiopian nationals.
Officials say most migrants caught in Malawi use the country as a transit point with their final destinations mostly being South Africa, Europe or the US.
Migrant bodies have previously been found in Malawi and Mozambique.
