Acting Luwingu District Health Director Joseph Mwansa says Luwingu District Hospital is facing a critical shortage of bed spaces to accommodate the growing population.
Dr Mwansa said that this has forced patients with different health conditions to be mixed in the same wards.
He said Luwingu District Hospital is servicing other districts like Lunte,Lupososhi,Chilubi in Northern Province and part of Kawambwa and Chipili districts in Luapula Province.
He said the hospital has a bed capacity of 78 which is not enough to accommodate the many people who require health services.
He has since lobbied for the expansion of the facility or for government to consider constructing a new hospital in the area to accommodate the growing population.
And, Northern Province Minister Leonard Mbao who toured the hospital described the situation at Luwingu District hospital as unacceptable.
Mr Mbao said there is urgent need to construct a new hospital which will benefit the growing population of the district and surrounding areas.
He further commended the hospital management for providing services to the people even with the prevailing challenges. ZANIS
