The Luapula Provincial Administration says it will support the use of manual labour during the early stages of the new Luongo Manganese Mine in Chipili District.
Provincial Minister Nickson Chilangwa said this is because it is a source of income for the local people.
Mr Chilangwa said using heavy-duty equipment where only physical labour is needed will deny the people of Chipili disposable income.
He was speaking when he led a delegation from the Provincial Administration on a tour of Luongo Manganese Mine site in Chief Mutipula’s Chiefdom.
The Minister said the local people should be allowed to provide physical labour before heavy duty machinery like bulldozers are used so that the money can help improve the local economy. ZANIS
