Copperbelt PF Youth Chairperson President Edgar Lungu should be commended for showing political will in the fight against corruption.
Mr Chanda said the fight against corruption should not be left to President Lungu alone but all well-meaning citizens should get involved.
He said Zambia has seen in the latest 2017 Auditor General’s report of misapplication of funds by directors in different government departments and their line ministries.
“We seen the same even in the private sector and some political parties. We are encouraged that the PF under President Lungu has continued to show political will in fighting corruption. The directive by President Lungu to have those involved in corruption to be investigated, prosecuted is a welcome move which demonstrates how the President detests corruption and more tellingly, corruption is a leading topic in the political discourse.
“However, it should be noted that the fight against corruption can not only be left to President Lungu alone and the PF government doing so will only be an academic exercise in the fight against the vice, We want to encourage the general public and law enforcers to be proactive and help the fight against corruption. Yes we have seen people been fired from government and some been convicted which is good sign,” he said.
Mr Chanda who is also Luanshya Mayor encouraged PF members to avoid any forms of corruption.
He advised the PF members to be transparent in any transaction that they do so that they show leadership by following what their leader of PF and Republican President is doing.
“As PF members we should be the least to be involved in any activities that will dent the name of the party and the President. We should always note, that what we do wrong has negative adverse impact on the President.
“We would also want to call on the Church, Civil Society Organization and the opposition political parties to come on board and support the fight against corruption at all levels. President Lungu has set the ball rolling through his political will to fight corruption and has Youths on the copper belt province we will support him.
“Corruption is a cancer and, if not fought collectively, it affects everyone. Together, the public sector, business and civil society will can strengthen our web of anti- corruption activities and eradicate corruption in our country,” he said.
