Lungu’s admittance of corruption opens Pandora’s box-UPND

By ALICE NACHILEMBE
United Party for Nation Development (UPND) Deputy Secretary General Patrick Mucheleka says President Edgar Lungu’s admitting of corruption reveals a lot about his Government.

Mr Mucheleka said for President Lungu to admit that he has been aware of the corruption more than two months ago that donors had suspended aid to Zambia in ministries shows his leadership style.

“This is an interesting revelation because last week, Information and Broadcasting Minister Dora Siliya was busy rubbishing these media reports as mere falsehoods and opposition propaganda.

“To make matters worse, Mr Lungu even went to fool and mocked Zambians on the floor of the house in parliament by saying: Mr Speaker, The social cash transfer program has proved to be effective in contributing to poverty reduction as well as income redistribution, especially in the rural communities where poverty is very high. The program is being scaled up to reach a total of 700,000 beneficiary households countrywide by the end of this year. Currently, 632,020 households are benefiting” he said.

Mr Mucheleka said it had to take the donor community for Mr Lungu to act in what now is merely sacrificing a Minister.

He said Lungu and his PF leadership want to keep fooling the Zambians but they should tell the people about the looting that is going on in the Ministry of Health on the money for cholera program.

“Why the health personnel, the security wings, and other people who were engaged to fight cholera have to date not been paid their allowances despite lots of money having been donated by various stakeholders, especially the business community.

Let them tell us who is importing expired ARVs in the country. Let them also tell us what they know about the looting that is going on in the Ministry of Education where key programs for children have been suspended and the amounts involved,” he said.

He said the whole PF leadership is rotten and stinking with corruption.
