Police in Lukulu District of Western Province have arrested a male adult identified as Kaumba Pumulo, 31 in connection with the murder of his wife identified as Kahare Kufekisa aged 35.
The incident is reported to have occurred between August 20, 2021 at 2100 hours and August 21, 2021 at 0500 hours at Kinga village, Chief Mushashu in Lukulu District after a marital dispute .
Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo said that the accused person is alleged to have used a knife in the act and the victim sustained a deep cut on the throat and died instantly.
She said the body of the deceased person is in Lukulu District Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
“The Instrument used in the murder has been recovered and the suspect is in police custody awaiting court appearance,” she said.
In a similar incident, Police in Serenje District of Central Province have arrested a male adult identified as Evaristo Chansa aged 28 of Fikondo area in connection with the murder of his one year old child.
The incident is reported to have happened on August 19, 2021 around 23 00 hours in Fikondo area in Serenje District when the wife of the now suspect went home late which led to a fight.
Ms katongo said the suspect is alleged to have picked a stick which he intended to hit the wife with but instead it landed on the child that was strapped to the back of the mother and it instantly died due to injuries sustained.
She said the mother of the child identified as Rosemary Ngosa Chibuye is in Serenje District Hospital nursing serious injuries while the body of the deceased child is in the mortuary awaiting postmortem.
“We appeal to couples to always find amicable ways of sorting out their disputes as opposed to violent means which have in most instances resulted in death,” she said.
