Mushingashi area in Lufwanyama has been connected to the nation power grid under the Rural Electrification Authority (REA).
This has excited the people of Mushingashi the home of Kambilombilo Resettlement Scheme located about 75 kilometres in the outskirts of Lufwanyama.
The communities in the west part of Lufwanyama especially those from Mushingashi mounted a huge poster lobbying government to have the area lit.
Henry Chilombo a resident of Lufwanyama said the lack of power and the modern appliances limited people’s lives in Kambilombilo Resettlement and surrounding communities.
Mr Chilombo expressed gratitude to Government despite the cost of construction.
He said Zesco had no interest in extending their lines to rural areas but REA connected it under the Luswishi Extension Grid Project.
And Lufwanyama District Commissioner Miniver Mutesa said the impact of the project has been great because it is coming through a farming block government has marked for empowering the locals
Ms Mutesa said all the schools that are in the line of rural electrification would be ungraded meaning that information and communication Technology program would be introduced.
She said the project which is ongoing would see all Government institution facilities along the Lufwanyama- Kalengwa road electrified and areas like Luswishi, Kabunene, Kanyafimbolo, Lumwana, Mashinka, Nchakwa, Katolele communities
She said the children will be able to access the facility that they couldn’t have without power.
The DC said the visit of the Vice President Inonge Wina to Kambilobilo to lunch the project was a very good gesture and instead of electricity ending at Mushingashi it ending at Kabilolol Heath Post.
“The community along this line of REA will be lit under Zesco as they are also connecting individual house hold at a small fee. The community is very happy for what government has done providing them with proper development a facility that they are accessing for the first time since independence, “she said.
