Lufwanyama District Commissioner Miniver Mutesa says she is hopeful that the up coming Copperbelt expo slated for June this year will help revive the seemingly struggling mining sector in Lufwanyama.
And Dr Mutesa said currently only 2 out of over a 500 registered mining companies are active in the district.
Speaking when she officiated as guest of honour during a handover of a Toyota VX landcruiser worth K100,000 to Chief Lupuma of the Lamba speaking people at grizzly mining, Dr Mutesa Lufwanyama district has the potential for investment as it boasts to have some of the most sort out emeralds in the world.
Dr Mutesa noted with sadness that only two mining companies Kagem and Grizzly mining have continued to operate at full capacity in the area.
” With the upcoming expo in june, as Lufwanyama we are hopeful that we will attract required investment not only the in agriculture but also in the mining sector specifically the emerald,” she said.
Dr. Mutesa said government will always support investment in the mining sector particularly in the gem stone sector of Lufwanyama.
And company Secretary of grizzly mining Caroline Sampa assured government that grizzly mining who always support tradition leaders in Lufwanyama as the company believes that traditional leaders have a critical role in providing leadership and a conducive environment in enhancing development.
Ms Sampa said lives of the people in the communities will greatly improve if we if traditional leaders.
Ms Sampa commended traditional leaders in the district particularly Chief Lupuma for taking up the mental to fight against early marriages and poverty for the benefit of the community.
She said the donation will greatly help the chief and enhance mobility in providing care and activism in the chiefdom.
When receiving the donation Chief Lupuma thanked grizzly mining for the gesture which is part of the corporate social responsibility adding that the vehicle will help access remote areas in the district.
“As chiefs we sometimes face challenges to access some remote areas of achieve due lack of transport. Sutton donation will enable me to reach out to the people in the far flunked areas of my chiefdom,” he added.
