Lufyanyama Council Chairperson Moses Chiyuka says the opening up of a new route for buses to Lufwanyama would reduce the high bus fares.
Mr Chiyuka said the move has cheered the people who have been complaining over the high bus fares.
He said his Council last week engaged Buses and Taxi owners Association of Zambia Copperbelt province and Noah and Taxis Association Lufyanyama-Kalulushi branch.
“This was to open a route to Lufwanyama in order to reduce the current high bus fares of 40×2 which is equal to K80 payable fare from Lufyanyama Boma to Kalulushi.
“When the people from Kitwe to Ndola, Luanshaya, Mufulira and Chingola are paying K40 to and from almost same distance with Kalulushi to Lufwanyama,” he said.
Mr Chiyuka said the meeting was successful and bus fares from Kitwe to Lufyanyama Boma are K35 and Kalulushi to Lufyanyama K25 which is at least 70 and 50 respectively.
He has urged the people to start boarding these buses for the buses to continue servicing the route.
