Lubambe Copper mine in Chililabombwe is set to increase production to 30,000 tons per year under its extension project.
And Copperbelt Minister Elisha Matambo said the mining industry in Zambia has potential to attain 3m tons annual copper production in line with the Government economic recovery agenda.
Speaking when he toured Lubambe Copper Mine, Mr Matambo said the future of the mining industry remains bright citing the new expansion project at Lubambe which is said to have the highest grade of copper in the country.
And Lubambe Copper Mine Chief Executive officer Tim Duffy said the $700m extension project will increase the life span of the mine by another 8 years.
