Lubambe Copper Mine unionized employees have been awarded 11 per cent salary increment effective January 1, 2021.
This means the lowest employee at the mine will now be getting close to K5, 000.
Mineworkers Union of Zambia President Joseph Chewe said the obligation of the union is to make its members happy with the outcome of the salary negations.
Mr Chewe said copper prices have gone up and the awarding of salary increment to Lubambe miners was long overdue.
He said the miners were equally feeling the effect of coronavirus, hence the need to motivate them to do more, more especially the mine is doing fine at the moment.
And Lubambe Copper Mine Communications Manager Loyce Saili said the salary increment is aimed at motivating the employees to achieve more.
Lubambe Mine has increased its production by 70%.
In 2017, the mine was producing one million tonnes of copper ore while in 2020; the mine produced 1.7 million tonnes.
