Luangwa District Gets Major Boost with New Infrastructure Projects

By Staff Writer
Luangwa Town Council has embarked on an ambitious drive to upgrade infrastructure across the district, significantly improving the quality of life for residents.

The latest developments include the construction of key projects aimed at enhancing water supply, sanitation, road maintenance, and connectivity.

A new water reticulation system, valued at K1,298,618.12, has been constructed to address water supply challenges at Luangwa Secondary School and surrounding communities.

Strategically located approximately 3 kilometers from the school, this system ensures a reliable water source for students, staff, and residents.

In addition, the council has acquired a 20-tonne roller compactor and a 20,000-litre water bowser at a combined cost of K4.69 million.

These essential machines, supplied by SDLG Company, will enhance road maintenance and socio-economic development in the area.

To improve sanitation, seven ablution blocks have been constructed in key public areas, including schools, market shelters, community halls, and health centers. The total cost of this project was K2,546,521.57, with facilities located in Mphuka, Kaluluzi, Katondwe, Kaunga, Mburuma, Kanemela, and Kapoche wards.

Rural communities will benefit from 17 newly drilled boreholes, providing clean water and addressing water scarcity and health risks. Funded under the 2023 Feira Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocations, this project cost K1,101,490.

Furthermore, the construction of a 50-meter footbridge across Rufunsa Stream in Janeiro has improved connectivity and ensured safe passage for villagers, especially during the rainy season.

Completed at a cost of K653,775.9, this project was funded under the 2022 and 2023 CDF allocation.
These infrastructure upgrades demonstrate Luangwa Town Council’s commitment to utilizing the Constituency Development Fund effectively, addressing pressing needs, and enhancing the well-being of residents.

“The successful completion of these projects underscores our dedication to improving the lives of our people,” said a council spokesperson. “We remain focused on delivering essential services and infrastructure to drive socio-economic growth in Luangwa District.”
