The Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure Development has started a project of re-scoping most of the road projects under the Link Zambia 8000.
Permanent Secretary Charles Mushota says the road re-scoping project is being done through the Road Development Agency – RDA- to ensure full completion of projects that are more than 80 percent done.
Mr Mushota says the rescoping project is focusing on appropriate channeling of resources in line with the Presidential directive and current austerity measures being implemented by government.
He has said that the re-scoping exercise will see some road projects which were supposed to have been tarred downgraded to gravel.
He, however, maintained that government is on course in executing the link Zambia 8000 adding that currently 830 Kilometres have been surfaced and opened to traffic out of 5, 209 Kilometres under implementation.
Mr Mushota said slow progress on the project is attributed to insufficient cash flow injection into the projects.
He also said other factors are that government has diverted funds to addressing numerous emergencies caused by collapsed culverts and bridges due to above normal rainfall and floods in some parts of the country.
