Lightening kills five football players in Chiengi

Five players from Chhilondo Football club in Chiengi District of Zambia have been struck dead by lightening.

Police acting Spokesperson Danny Mwale has confirmed the death of the five.

Mr Mwale said investigations revealed that the players belonging to a local football team known as Chilondo Football Club also known as Barcelona were hired to cultivate a piece of land in order to raise funds at Chikalipa Village.

He said before they finished working, rain started and the eight players went to seek refuge under a mango tree where lightening struck killing the Five on the spot while three were left injured.

Mr Mwale identified those that died as Jackson Kabwe 20, Seleman Kapembwa 19, and Joe Chansa 19.

Others are Mpundu Nasri and Joe Katai aged 16 and 17 respectively.He said the bodies of the five are in Chienge District Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
