Leadership Movement empowers members with skills centre

By MAIMBO MWEEMBA
The Leadership Movement Party has empowered its member’s in Kitwe’s Kapoto Township with a training and skills Centre called the Leadership Movement Community Manufacturing center.

Party President Richard Silumbe says that this was done to help alleviate poverty among its residents.
Dr Silumbe said that every Zambian educated or not has what it takes to help development the country.
He however did not disclose how much has been channeled into the empowerment program.

“We decided to empower members through skills and training rather than empowerment of hand to mouth, these people that are at this workshop are able to make trade mills that can grind maize and groundnuts, they also make egg incubators among other things, which they will later resale at an affordable price to make money,” he said.

Dr Silumbe said that skills empowerment is the way to go if the country is to develop practically.

“We are not politicians but reformers we do not want to be criticizing the government without solutions, sourcing for sources has not been easy, this empowerment is for people that support local products,” he said.

And Dr Silumbe said that in the new regime there is freedom of movement as opposed to the former government.
And one of the beneficiaries Gwen Chalwe encouraged women to take interest in the manufacturing center as it offers a lot skills training such as tailoring for women.

Ms Chalwe said that through tailoring clothes for women she is now able to sustain her family.

And another beneficiary Charles Nsofwa is thankful to the Leadership Movement for training him.

Mr Nsofwa further appealed to members of the public to patronize the workshop and purchase locally made equipment at affordable prices.

And the center’s secretary Faith Mwape said that currently the center has 200 members from the Township are undergoing training.

Ms Mwape said the centre has also helped in curbing bad vices in the Township.
