Lamba chiefs demand apology from Daily Nation

By NCHIMUNYA MIYOBA
The Lamba-Lima Royal Council of Chiefs has ordered the daily nation newspaper to avail the Royal Council with evidence over an article they carried on January 23, 2019 which stated that huge sums of money was given to traditional leaders, villagers and illegal miners to silence  them on the happenings at Gemcanton Investment holdings Ltd.

Lamba-Lima Royal Council of Chiefs Chairperson Senior Chief Chiwala said the daily nation newspaper should give the Royal council names of the traditional leaders that obtained money as allegation was detrimental.

Speaking during the second Lamba-Lima Royal Council of Chiefs held at Mubende Lodge in Luanshya yesterday, Chief Chiwala said the failure by the newspaper to avail the council with evidence will prompt the council to take legal action.

Chief Chiwala said daily nation should immediately retract the article before legal action is taken.

He said chiefs in the province will not allow such acts to happen in the country.

Chief Chiwala said if the newspaper does not provide evidence or apologise to the chiefs in the province, things will not go well for the paper.

“Traditional leaders cannot keep quiet on issues affecting their people if they were offered a lot money. All leaders have the duty to protect the people in the chiefdom as it is an insult for Daily Nation to accuse chiefs of being bribed.

“The chiefs will not allow foreign investors to mistreat its people and the council will ensure that all foreigners found will be deported. Government should allow investors to come back to the country for they will not be welcomed back into the chiefdoms,” Chief Chiwala said.
