The church in Kitwe says saddened by the killings of innocent women in the district by a suspected serial killer.
Kitwe Pastor’s Fellowship Chairperson Bishop Daddy Lewila said the revelation of the arrest of the culprit makes sad reading especially in a community that has suffered social evils in the past.
Bishop Lewila said the church mourns with the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones in a gruesome manner adding that whoever takes life must be held accountable for their actions.
“As a church we express our condolences to the families affected by the murders. We the church condemn such acts. We cannot allow such acts to happen even if the suspected killer was reacting to something. No one should treat innocent women like that. We pray and seek guidance to God to be with us all in this difficult time,” he said.
He said it is imperative for law enforcers to carry out investigations and ensure that each victim is identified to bring closure to affected families.
Bishop Lewila said there is need for the community to work with the Zambia police service and help in apprehending anyone coming into conflict with the law.
Meanwhile, Democratic Governance and Human Rights Advocates ( DEGHA) National coordinator Gerald Mutelo said the arrest of the suspected serial killer shows the seriousness that the Zambia police service have in ensuring that communities are safe.
Mr Mutelo said communities should work with the police and report suspicious activities in time to avoid further loss of life.
“Communities should take keen interest of what is happening around them and quickly inform the law enforcers in time. The culprits live with us in communities hence it is important to take interest and help to bring to book such people,” he said.
Police in Kitwe yesterday discovered five female victims, bringing the total number to seven.
Out of seven two were positively identified by their families owing to the fact that, they could have been dumped recently.
Two more bodies were found in a decomposed state, and were having also identified. However, four bodies were not identified because they were in a bad state and could have been dumped sometime back. The remain of the victims have since been interred by the local authority
