Kitwe City Council will this week bury 11 unclaimed bodies of which 10 are men and one is a woman at a cost of approximately K10000.
This follows a request by Kitwe Teaching Hospital (KTH) to bury the 11 unclaimed bodies which have been laying in its mortuary for the period of 4 to 6 months.
The burial of the unclaimed or unidentified bodies will be done in accordance with section 27(d) of the Public Health Act, chapter 295 of the laws of Zambia.
The local authority received the letter from Kitwe Teaching Hospital on 26th November, 2020 to request the burial of the unclaimed bodies and the council gave the members of the general public a 14 days’ notice of which has elapsed.
The local authority has noted with sadness the growing failure to claim bodies of the deceased by family members.
Therefore, the local authority would like to appeal to any Church within the district to come and offer prayers during the burial of the 11 deceased this week.
This is according to a media statement by Kitwe City Council Public Relations Manager Chola Mwamba.
