Kitwe Council closes bus stations

Kitwe city Council has with immediate effect closed three bus stations in the district.

Bus drivers, operating at Cavmont Bank, MTN and Zaco have with immediate effect been told to move to designated bus stations so as to bring sanity in the district while the Ndola and Luanshya bus drivers have been asked to move to Wild West.

Speaking during a consultative meeting between Kitwe City Council and bus drivers Kitwe Mayor Christopher Kang’ombe called on chairpersons of various bus stations to abide by the Markets and Bus stations Act.

Eng. Kang’ombe warned that any bus drivers who will be found operating in the closed bus station will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

He said it is unacceptable that despite sitting in several meetings to chat the way forward on bringing sanity to the district some bus drivers have ignored important directives.

Further during the same meeting it was unanimously agreed that pirating will not be condoned and that any passenger found standing idle will be apprehended and charged for loitering.

Eng. Kang’ombe has since instructed Council police to be vigil and maintain Law and order in the district.
He has called on those currently operating in designated bus stations to immediately provide space to accommodate the Noah buses.
