Kids on the streets worry YWCA

By Ireen Mulenga
Young Women’s Christian Association Zambia (YWCA) National Youth Chairperson Besa Kambafwile has expressed concerns over the increased number of children on the street in Chingola and Luanshya Towns.

Ms Kambafwile said the increase in the number of children on the children in the two towns is a source of concern and worry that needs to be taken care of.

She said the rise in the number, is a wakeup call for every one not only the people in authority.

“I would like to call up on every one to take action in order to reduce the number of children on the street in Chingola and Luanshya before it is too late. If nothing is done, these children will start attacking people at night or begin to have children of their own,” she said

Ms Kambafwile said the poverty levels and gender based violence is high in their homes hence the increase.

She said it is not conducive for them to be on the streets especially in this time of COVID-19 pandemic.

Ms Kambafwile has called on every one to join hands and clear the streets, adding that these children have got homes where they come from.
