Kenya’s Governor killer of the girl in the photo remains in police custody

MIGORI Governor Okoth Obado will remain in remand a little longer at Industrial Area GK prison after High Court disallowed his application for bail.

Law court Judge Jessie Lessit ruled against the application citing fear of interference from the embattled governor.

She said Okoth Obado will remain in police custody until state witness testifies in court on October 8.

Murder is a bailable offence in Kenya but remains a capital offence like any other Commonwealth state.

This is in a matter in which Obado is charged with murder of his girlfriend Sharon Otieno, who was a university student at Ringo University.

Obado is accused of murdering his girlfriend Sharon after she became pregnant of him.

Obado, together with his personal assistant Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero who is a Clerk of Migori county Assembly are set to appear before court on October, 8.

While reading the ruling, justice Jessie Lessit explained that the only way the court can ensure the case is not interfered with is by having the accused in police custody.

Earlier, Obado’s Attorney Cliff Ombeta had argued that his client would comply with all the orders of the court and that he would not influence the witnesses if released on bail.

“Yes, he (Obado), the accused is a man of influence; this is just political and not the case. He will not, in any way, if granted bail, influence the witnesses,” argued Ombeta on Monday.

Obado was therefore remanded till October 8.
