Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) says it will defend its rights against Vedanta injunction restraining the Provisional Liquidator Milingo Lungu from disposing off some assets under its mining licence.
KCM acting General Manager Corporate Shapi Shachinda said that the mining firm has leant through various media reports about Vedanta Resources being granted an ex-parte injunction by Lusaka High Court.
Mr Shachinda said the Provisional Liquidator has yet to be served with the court documents.
He said KCM will vigorously defend any encroachment on the powers of the Provisional Liquidator.
“The mining license to the subject areas have not been part of KCM mining license from 2007. KCM has not sold or transferred any mining license to any entity since the Provisional Liquidator took over. The agreement was in respect to allowing Mimbula to access its mining area where KCM enjoys surface rights,” he said.
