KCM Orthopedic Surgeon retires

Zambia’s finest Senior Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Shadreck Lungu has decided to leave Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) hospital to pursue his own medical business.

KCM medical services department discharged Dr Lungu of his duties, this comes barely a week after the retirement of another Consultant Physician Doctor Mahesh Trivedi.

At his send off party on Wednesday, KCM Manager for Medical Services Edward Chilekwa, described Dr Lungu as someone who paid particular attention to his duties and made sure that patients were attended to carefully.

“Dr Lungu has been a good trainer with vast skills of handling all bone related cases in both children and adults and his absence will have a huge impact on the KCM family, and we would be glad if he continued his services with us,” he said.

Dr Chilekwa asked Dr Lungu to leave his doors open for some consultations, as the hospital will need his services any time.

Speaking at the same event, his colleagues described him as a trainer with a heart to teach others how to do things rightfully for the benefit of the patient.

With the 19-year race at Nchanga South hospital, Dr Lungu is still energetic and would have loved to continue rendering services, but desires to face other challenges life has to offer and escape the comfort zone that KCM has offered him for the fresh blood.

And Dr Lungu, recalled how his journey in the medical field began with the help of other Doctors like Dr Darius Muyendekwa, believes it is time to face other challenges and offer the community other opportunities.

With his fascinating journey in the medical field, Dr. Lungu, at his time, was the first ever and only one in Zambia who studied Orthopedics at the University of Zambia in 1994 to 1998, when four others dropped out for various reason.

He has made positive strides with his preparations in serving the people of Chingola by setting up a clinic in Chikola called South Side Clinique with hopes to open another one in 3rd street early next year.

Dr Lungu thanked the KCM medical services and management for according him an opportunity and support through his career in medicine/tiozambia/KCM.
