Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) has invested $30 000 in the 2025 marathon scheduled for March 29, 2025, at Nchanga Gold Club in Chingola.
According to Dr. John Kunda, KCM’s Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, the injection of $30 000 is more than a sport, it is a celebration of life and promote good health for the community and uplifting the lives of the people in the areas of operation.
Dr. Kunda said it is about integrated human development and investing in the communities to improve people’s lives, not just about sports, but also giving them sustenance for their lives in the communities.
The marathon has also received sponsorship from Mimbula Minerals who have contributed $10 000 dollars and T3 Drilling, with more stakeholders expected to join.
The event has attracted 2,000 participants. The budget for the marathon is $50,000.
The aim of the marathon is to raise funds towards refurbishing the Nchanga Golf Club, establishing a junior golf team for Nchanga, and supporting a local orphanage.

Chingola Mayor Johnson Kang’ombe has commended KCM, Mimbula Minerals, and T3 Drilling for giving back to the community. He urged other stakeholders to follow their example and work together to bring Chingola back on the map.
Mimbula Minerals Director Fidelis Chanda emphasized the importance of corporate social responsibility, noting that a healthy community is a healthy workforce.
Arnold Hoffmann, Financial Manager for T3 Drilling, expressed excitement about the opportunity to uplift the lives of youths through sports, promoting discipline and community development.
