KCM donates PPE attire to Chingola Council

Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) has donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to Chingola Municipal Council towards the fight against corona virus worth K40, 000.

Chingola Council will this Saturday  11th April, 2020 roll out the cleaning, disinfecting and fumigation of markets and bus stations in the district, including major streets, roads and drainages and all public places.

The Local Authority has embarked on a massive exercise in keeping up with the fight against COVID-19.

In response to these concerted efforts that are being made, Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) has donated a kit of 50 work suits and Gumboots procured at an estimated cost of K40,000 to the Chingola Municipal Council.

KCM Acting General Manager Cooperate affairs Shapi Shachinda said that the donation was toward the women who clean the street of Chingola to help them from getting corona virus.

Mr Shachinda said the women play an important role in keeping the town clean and they need to be protected from corona virus.

He said the municipality is a good partner to the mine, hence the donation in the hope to help the workers.

“We are giving so that we can maintain hygiene in the district so this is not the first or last we are giving,” he said.

Chingola Mayor Titus Tembo said the attire had come at the right time for the women that clean the street.

Mr Tembo said the women work under harsh conditions cleaning the dirt from the street.

He commended KCM for the gesture that it has done and urged others to emulate them in the fight.

Besides KCM, other stakeholders have come on board with contributions.

BHL Transport has also donated two- 1000 Litre capacity hand washing water dispensers of which one has been placed at the Solwezi Checkpoint.

And Dice Metals has contributed one truck to be used for collecting garbage during this period the country is fighting the pandemic, while Zoomlion donated two boxes of 12×450mls Hygienix Liquid Hand wash.

Additionally, Sinazongwe UPND Member of Parliament Gift Sialubulo, a one time resident of Chingola has contributed a Tipper truck with fuel.

The trucks will be used for the collection and disposal of garbage during the exercise.
