KCM celebrates its Independence in style

Konkola Copper Mine (KCM) has celebrated it’s 59th independence in style by taking part in various sport activities which took place today at Nchanga Stadium in Chingola ahead of the main day tomorrow.

KCM also awarded it’s employees for coming first, second and third in Various sports activities among them Marathon 3KM and 5KM, sprints, Relays, shuttle mixed 2/2 4x 100M, Obstacle for both men and women, Sack race, Fill the bottle, Run and skip race, pop the balloon and Tug of war.

The event was celebrated under this year’s theme ‘Accelerating National Development through Equitable Distribution of resources’.

Speaking during the event KCM Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Enock Mponda says that sport is important because it’s productive.

Mr Mponda said the Company celebrates through sports in order to support a healthier, happy and more productive workforce.

“ This year’s theme deflects on KCM aspiration and Commitment to delivery development to the Nation through production of Copper and Cobalt through equity and equality,” he said.

He further explained that sport is an integral part of life and crucial part of person’s growth and development. It teaches discipline respect , friendship, resilience and team work.

“Our KCM independence is designed to bring employees together so that we can build strong bonds and figure out how we can plan, work together in order to achieve our shared goals,” he said.

Speaking during the same event, Prudence Chisakuta thanked employees for taking part in sports and thanked others for cheering their colleagues.

Ms Chisakuta also congratulated winners who won in various sports activities.

Boyd chanda one of the recipient said that he was delighted to be part of the event and the winner in 3km Marathon category.

Mr chanda said that sport is cardinal in one’s life and encouraged fellow employees to be participating in sports.

Another recipient who came first in 100m race Zulu Phales said that sports brings people together and she thanked KCM for organizing the event.

“It’s good to do sports, am feeling happy for being part of the event and being one of the recipient, all thanks to the organizers,” she said .
