Kitwe Mayor Mwaya Mpasa, has assured the National Association for Medium and Small Scale Contractors that the local authority is ready to work with them and allow them to bid for projects provided they meet the criteria for the Constituency Development Funds (CDF).
Ms Mpasa said, each Constituency has been allocated K25 million to facilitate implementation of projects in the district.
“The local authority takes all the concerns that have been raised on who qualifies for CDF and guidelines will be made available accordingly so that all stakeholders who are interested to bid for projects can do so with a clear understanding of the procedures.” she said.
She also said, the local authority will ensure that it harmonizes the business environment for the local players, provided that they deliver quality works.
The Mayor said this when National Association for Medium and Small Scale Contractors paid a courtesy call to her office.
And National Association for Medium and Small Scale Contractors Provincial Vice-Chairperson Happy Kalumbwa said the association was in the past few years facing challenges on getting contracts for projects from the local authority because the awarding of contracts seemed to have been politicized.
Mr Kalumbwa said the association hopes that they will be fair awarding of CDF contracts by the council.
This is contained in a statement issued by Kitwe City council Public Relations Manager Chola Mwamba.
