Kashiba border post in Mwense District is earmarked for upgrade to modern border facility to enhance clearing time.
Luapula Province Minister Nickson Chilangwa has told The Independent Observer in an interview that Kashiba Border Post is one of the busiest economic crossing points connecting Zambia through Luapula Province to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Mr Chilangwa said due to concerted efforts, following the recently held Regional Joint Permanent Commission progress has been made.
“The Zambian pontoon stationed at Kashiba since 2011 will now be serving the harbours of Kasenga (DRC) and Kashiba (Zambia), thereby accelerating trade activities between the two countries.
“Ged border development zone ltd in conjunction with Mwense Town Council will soon begin an upgrade programme of the border post. This is an interim measure as we await the construction of the Kasomeno-Mwenda Road and bridge project. This will then become the tourism centre for water related activities as the Luapula River is navigable with ease from Kashiba to Lake Mweru,” he said.
