Kalumbila minerals compensated all settlers

Kalumbila Minerals Management has refuted claims of unpaid resettlements raised by some settlers of Shinen’gene and Kalumbila North resettlement community.

Yesterday some settlers protested in Kalumbila claiming that they were not settled by the mining firm.

Speaking during a Press briefing held at Trident foundation Kalumbila Minerals limited General Manager Sean Egner said that all persons entitled for compensation where fully compensated.

Mr Egner said he is concerned with the protest that occurred within Kalumbila town because the mining firm ensured that all resettlements were done in accordance with the law.

He said that the mine has reviewed the 2013 resettlements and all legal requirements were fully complied with and all persons entitled to compensation were all fully compensated in accordance with resettlement action plan which was signed by the resettled person and the Zambia environmental Management Agency.

“Having examined the 2013 resettlements which are the subject of this recent event we are of the view that all legal requirements were fully complied with and all persons entitled to compensation fully compensated,” he said.

Mr Egner said that the concerns should be addressed through the appropriate government appointed agencies such as ZEMA and the district, Provincial administration.

“Kalumbila Minerals limited 10 years ago compensated 597 people from Shinen’gene and Kalumbila North resettlement in the presence of government agencies,” He said.
