Kalulushi Municipal Council has approved a budget of 64.5million for the 2019 civic year 2019.

The 2017 reflects an increase of 29 per cent from the previous budget.

Presenting the budget Finance Valuation and Commercial Undertakings Committee Chairperson Paul Chivunda said the budget would be funded through Government grant, the Local Government equalisation fund and internally raised funds.

Mr Chivunda said K53.3 million will be raised internally and 12.1 million would come from Government support.

He said the Council increased the ward fund from K100 to K200 per ward which include for Ward Development Committees (WDC) administrative logistics.

“The 25.4 million would be spent on personal emoluments, K22 million on provision of services, 3.51 million on creditors, 5.6 million on other expenses and 8 million on non-financial assets.

“The budget has focused on attaining overall collection efficiency of 85 per cent, 42 per cent service provision, improved budget trucking and monitoring, priorities and control expenditure on key council programs. The budget is in line with the government guidelines for the provision of 2021,” he said.

Mr Chivunda said on the year under review, the council managed to achieve a number of successes like acquiring the Geographical Information System which would address the issues of double allocation of plots.

He told the Councillors to work together to support the effort of the management by educating their wards on the implementation of the projects.

Kalulushi Deputy Mayor Modester Kabwe told the Councillors that for the council to run effectively, Councillors need to participate fully and support the works of the council.

Mr Kabwe said Councillors have a responsibility to sensitize their communities on Council works.

He said the information in the booklets should be explained to the community as some are ignorant of Council works or budget.
