Kafubu Water Supply and Sanitation Managing Director Athanasius Mwaba says the Kafulafuta Water Supply System (KWSS) project will be commissioned as soon as few auxiliary works are completed.
Engineer Mwaba said the US 499 million government funded project is 85 percent overall completed with the actual dam being at 98 percent complete.
The main component under the KWSS project is the construction of the Kafulafuta Dam which has its boundaries in Masaiti and the Mpongwe Central Business District CBD.
The dam which will have a water supply capacity of 430,000m3 per day and a total volume of 125 million m3 will also have other auxiliary facilities such as pump stations, water distributions pipelines, water intake pump station at Ibenga area, including water pipelines.
‘This project is being executed by the China National Complete Engineering Cooperation CCCC as the main contractor. The project will increase our revenue base as Kafubu since the project will bring on board about twenty thousand new customers.
“With the Kafulafuta dam under completion, our customers are assured of constant water supply. The purpose of this project is to provide water supply to an additional one million extra people in our operational areas namely; Ndola, Luanshya, Masaiti and Mpongwe districts.
Engineer Mwaba said the main objective of the Kafulafuta Water Supply System Project is to address the challenges of water supply by expanding the network to unserviced areas.
The Kafulafuta Water Supply System project was launched by President Edgar Lungu on September 20, 2018 and is scheduled for completion in 2021.
