Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President Andrew Kamanga has described the death of Moses Kabaila as great loss to football fraternity and the nation at large.
Mr Kamanga said that football has lost a great mind that lived and breathed the game.
“We are saddened at the loss of a great football mind who served the game honorably. Being a life member, we drew on some of his experiences in the game and we pray that the Lord sees through the family in this difficult period,” he said.
He said late the Kabaila was until his death a FAZ life member who served the game in various capacities in his illustrious career that saw him also play for the Zambia National Soccer Team in 1967-68.
“His decorated football journey was birthed in Kitwe where he starred for Kitwe United from 1964 – 1971 as a defender. Kabaila later joined Ndola United from 1972 – 1976 before trekking to Vitafoam.
“Among his many accolades were the Castle Cup runners up medal with Kitwe United (Kabwe Warriors won 4-0 at Dag Hammarskjold Stadium) in 1969 and the 1970 Chibuku Cup crown with Kitwe United (beat Kabwe Warriors 1-0 at Scrivener Stadium now Nkana Stadium).
“He also won the BP Cup in 1971 with Kitwe United (beat Kabwe Warriors 1-0). Kabaila had several stints on the bench coaching the Ndola Lime, Vitafoam and Ndola United.
He was a founder member of the Zambia Football Coaches Association (ZAFCA) where he served as vice treasurer.
Some of his protégés at Vitaform when he served as coach were the likes of Fighton Simukonda, Boniface Chanda, Richard Mwanza, Webby Chikabala, Albert Bwalya and Michael Chabala,” he said.
The late Kabaila was born on 4th February 1944 in Luanshya and the funeral is being held in Kansenshi on Plot 10, Mbala Road.
