K797m collected from tolling

By Staff Writer
About K797 million has been collected through various tolling from January to November 2018.

And the newly opened Michael Chilufya Sata has produced a whooping K7 million from the time it was opened on November 4, 2018.

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Ronald Chitotela said the toll fees were being collected at 11 in-land toll stations, 10 ports of entry and four weigh bridges.

Mr Chitotela said Government would ensure that all collected revenue is channelled towards the on -going road infrastructure projects across the country.

He said the Humphrey Mulemba toll gate between Solwezi and Mutanda Junction, in North-Western province, has started operating.

The Minister explained that the opening of the Humphrey Mulemba toll gate is important because the province is Zambia’s mining hub.

Meanwhile, the minister announced that seven more toll gates are expected to be commissioned within the first quarter of 2019 in four provinces.

He said the electronic toll card which was recently launched by President Edgar Lungu has been rolled out to all road users to minimise handling of cash.
