Journalists play vital role in a poll year-JCTR

By Mercy Mulenga
The Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflect JCTR says journalists play a vital role in disseminating information before, during and after elections.

Facilitating at JCTR workshop held at Sharai Resort in Kitwe today, Zambia Daily Mail Chief Reporter Chimwemwe Mwale said the aim of the meeting was to discuss the role of the media in an election year.

Mr Mwale said there is need for the media to carry out more sensitisation on what is happening to keep them updated.

JCTR, a non-governmental organisation whose vision is to see a just Zambian society guided by faith where everyone enjoys the fullness of life has called for fair coverage and professionalism amongst journalists.

He said when people are sensitized they end up making informed decisions.

Mr Mwale charged that information disseminated in an election year is very imported as it has the power to bring both peace and anarchy.

He has since called for responsible journalism that preaches peace and balanced information.
