Joseph Kazhila Jr pleads not guilty

By JOHN SAKALA
Joseph Kazhila Jr, the son of Life Gospel Ministries General Overseer Bishop Joseph Kazhila has pleaded not guilty to one count of conduct likely to cause the breach of peace.

Appearing before Magistrate Shadrack Chanda was Kazhila Jr, a business executive of plot number 1722 Chikola who was arrested on January 22, 2020 at Chingola Central police station for behaviour which the police considered inappropriate after his father was arrested and detained at central police station.

Bishop Kazhila was arrested on January 22, while he was live on Kokoliko FM where he was calling on the people behind ritual killings to stop.

Police picked him saying he was inciting residents.

The arrest angered his two sons Gaby and Joseph 26, who questioned the motive of police in detaining their father.

It was at this point that the two sons were both arrested and detained together with their father.

Gaby was later released on Saturday while his young brother Joseph and Bishop remained in detention.

Initially Bishop Kazhila was transfer to Kitwe but has since been brought back to Chingola Central Police cells.

The matter has been adjourned to February 7, 2020 for commencement of trial.

His Lawyer Victor Michelo of VN Michelo and Partners applied for bail.

And the K5, 000 cash bail was granted in his own recognizance with one working surety from a reputable organisation.

Bishop Kazhila did not appear as the state was still waiting for instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
