Its September: PF begins grassroots polls

Patriotic Front (PF) will begin intra party elections at ward, constituency and district level beginning in September this year.

PF Secretary General Hon Davies Mwila today made the most awaited announcement in Lusaka.

Mr Mwila said Lusaka will have Ward elections between September 1 to 14, Constituency polls between September 15 to 26 and District polls on September 30.

He Central, Copperbelt, Eastern, Luapula, Muchinga, Northern, Southern and Western Provinces will have Ward, Constituency and District polls at the same time as Lusaka.

Party elections for

“Central, Copperbelt, Eastern, Luapula, Muchinga, Northern, Southern and Western Provinces will have Sections elections between September 8 and 21, Brach polls between September 22 and October 5, Ward elections between October 6 and 19. Constituencies’ polls between October 20 and November 2 while District polls will between November 3 and 8 this year.

“This is in line with provisions of the Republican Constitution which sets a requirement for political parties to hold free and regular elections. The announcement is also in line with PF’s commitment to ensure those elected to office in the Party subject themselves to renewal of their mandate by those forming the electoral college and that other members in good standing with the Party can be provided an opportunity to aspire for elective positions,” he said.

However, he said the dates for the Provincial Conferences shall be communicated accordingly.

Mr Mwila said that election guidelines will be sent to the respective organs and has since called on the structures to organize themselves in readiness for the elections.

He called for unity of purpose as the Party conducts the upcoming intra-party elections.
