Member of Parliament Twaambo Mutinta has expressed concern over the rising cases of unsafe abortions and school dropouts in Itezhi-Tezhi District.
He highlighted the need to address adolescent health, HIV/AIDS, and early pregnancies, commending UNESCO and FDI for their advocacy efforts.
Mr. Mutinta acknowledged the district’s challenges due to cultural norms and lack of sensitization but expressed optimism about the involvement of UNESCO and FDI in supporting youth-led initiatives.
He urged other stakeholders to join forces to address the issue, emphasizing the need to break the silence and create a safer environment for young people to promote better health outcomes.
The MP’s statement comes as the district sees a rise in unsafe abortions and school dropouts, with cultural norms and lack of sensitization hindering the development of young people.
The involvement of UNESCO and FDI has empowered youth to educate their peers about the effects of EUP and HIV/AIDS, fostering positive change. Traditional Leaders and the Ministry of Health have welcomed these initiatives, recognizing their contribution to health promotion and human development in the district.
