A United Kingdom based Tourism Public Relations and Marketing Company, dedicated to increase tourism to Africa has disclosed that Zambia is reporting a sharp increase in the number of UK keen to visit the country.
This follows the participation of Zambia Marketing Group in collaboration with Zambia Tourism Agency at the UK’s largest consumer travel show – Destinations – which was held at Olympia in London between Thursday 30th January to Sunday 2nd February.
KAMAGOE Chief Executive Officer Tim Henshall said early figures provided by the event organisers, suggest that over 40,000 would-be travellers visited the show and expressed interest in visiting the authentic of African wildlife destinations, Zambia.
KAMAGEO Head of Consumer Marketing Rich Whiston, explained, “Three years ago, people were asking us why they should visit Zambia. Now they are asking us when the best time to visit Kafue or The Lower Zambezi is. It’s clear that recent media reporting has provided a totally misleading image of the Falls, which hold UNESCO World Heritage Site status, but after reassuring them with the reality of the situation, travellers are hugely enthusiastic about visiting Zambian tourism delights,” he said.
Whiston emphasised the need for Zambia to raise its profile in the eyes of UK travelers. “When reminded of its delights, UK travelers are really keen to visit Zambia”.
And First Secretary Tourism Donald Pelekamoyo said the just ended Destinations show has been Zambia’s best ever consumer show in the UK so far.
“This will increase consumer awareness of Zambia and ultimately increase the number of tourists to Zambia. There will be a lot of tourists flowing in greater numbers than ever to Zambia. More emphasis will be placed on consumer awareness in 2020 and greater consideration would be given to activities aimed at fulfilling this objective,” he said.
And Deputy High Commissioner, Patricia Chanda attended the event and acknowledged the contribution being made by Kamageo.
“As Zambians, we pride ourselves in the tourism product that we believed stands amongst the best in the region. I can assure you of the Government’s and the High Commission’s utmost support in ensuring that it is made easier to sell Zambia,” she said.
