Injury knocks out Chilufya, Lungu out of Malawi clash

Injury has ruled out Sweden based midfielder Edward Chilufya and SuperSport United teen-star Gampani Lungu out of the Egypt 2019 Olympic Tournament qualifier against Malawi.

And Musonda said the South Africa week-long camp would give his lads enough time to concentrate on their Olympic assignment.
Assistant coach Bilton Musonda told FAZfootball.com that Chilufya had sustained a strained muscle that could take a fortnight to heal while Lungu was also in the treatment room and had yet to recover.

Musonda said the duo had been ruled out of the March 20 away match and the return fixture four days later at National Heroes Stadium.

“We have injuries with Edward Chilufya who sustained an injury and also Gampani Lungu who has been left out due to injury and is still in a P.O.P,” he said.
Musonda said securing a training camp in South Africa had augmented their six week local camp.
“The South Africa camp is very important for us as you know, we started camping for the past six weeks. We were doing three days per week locally which I think was a good thing. We kept on monitoring the boys,” he said.

“For the final camp in South Africa, we have to concentrate before the game, we are looking forward that every player is going to put in 100% so that carry the day.”

The team will be holed up at the upmarket Garden Court Milpark with FAZ placing a high premium on the under-23 project.
Zambia plays Malawi on March 20 away in Blantyre before hosting the junior flames four days later at National Heroes Stadium.
Winner over two legs will face either Congo Brazzaville or Burundi in the final qualifying round.

Eight teams will qualify for Egypt 2019 AFCON in November with the top three teams qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
The bulk of the Zambia Under-23 side comprises winners of the 2017 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations and earned a historic FIFA U20 World Cup quarterfinal spot/FAZ.
