Livingstone Mayor Constance Muleabai says infrastructure development is key social and economic growth in the country.
Speaking at the handover ceremony of six solar powered boreholes to marketeers held at Dambwa central market, Ms Muleabai said the boreholes drilled using the 20 percent of the local government equalization fund and costed over K700,000.
She said the city council wants to restore sanity in the markets by ensuring that safe and proper sanitation is provided to the residents and marketeers.
Ms Muleabai added that all the 17 markets will have solar powered boreholes to address the water shortages that are causes by the water utility company.
And representative of the marketers Boyd Tembo said the solar powered boreholes will help marketeers lessen on paying water bills.
And Mr Tembo commended the city council for ensuring that shortage of water in the markets is alleviated.
And Dambwa Central Councillor Paul Sichikwenkwe assured that the boreholes will be safe guarded from vandalism.
The Livingstone City council has handed over six out seven boreholes at Ellen Brittle, Dambwa north and central, Linda, Maramba and Mbita markets.
