United Progressive Party (UPP) Leader Saviour Chishimba has strongly opposed the impending increase in the pump price and electricity tariffs as it will be catastrophic.
Mr Chishimba said that the rate things are beginning to go, 2022 may be harder and this is not what Zambians bargained for.
He said any increase in fuel and electricity tariffs will trigger an increase in prices of all commodities including food.
Mr Chishimba said the financial distress among the people is too much to bear.
He said the basic needs basket for a family of 6 is over K9, 000 per month and this must be the tax exemption threshold and not a paltry K4, 500.
