The Department of Immigration at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport on October 5, 2023, denied a 37-year old Malawian national, his 31-year-old Malawian wife, his stepchildren aged 11, 8, and 5, together with a 30-year-old female Rwandese, exit to the United States of America.

Immigration Public Relations officer Namati Nshinka said the family entered Zambia on September 29, 2023 via the Mwami/Mchinji One Stop Border Post border but were intercepted as they attempted to leave for the United States of America aboard a Kenyan Airways Flight, as their decision to avoid departing from Kamuzu International Airport in Malawi raised suspicions of suspected child-trafficking.

Mr Nshinka said the group was handed over to the Malawi Immigration and Citizenship Services Department Officers at the Mwami/Mchinji One Stop Border Post on 6th October 2023.

In another development, the Chinsali Regional Immigration, on 3rd October 2023, secured the conviction of a 52-year-old Zambian Driver of Lukulu West, Monde Wamundila, for knowingly facilitating the remaining in Zambia of a Prohibited Immigrant.

Similarly, the Livingstone Regional Immigration Office on 29th September 2023 secured the conviction of a 67-year-old Mostwana Truck Driver, and three Zambian Truck for failing to appear before the nearest Immigration Officer on entry
