Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja has thanked the Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo for offering aide to Charity Munganga Chanda following the inferno which gutted her house.
Mr Kanganja said the Minister had come to the aid of the family of Ms Chanda, Assistant Commissioner of Police whose house was gutted and property worth millions of Kwacha destroyed on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 between 1400 hours and 15 00 hours in Lusaka’s Chamba Valley area.
He said he was greatly humbled by the gesture which he said had come at a right time when the family was hit with grief after losing their property in the inferno.
The Provincial Minister has offered alternative accommodation and financial assistance to help the family reestablish itself.
The Inspector General said that he received the sad news with shock as Ms Chanda had, on the very day of the tragedy, just returned from Sudan where she was serving on a Peace Keeping mission for a period of two years. He has assured the affected family of his Commands support to see them through this hard time.
Fire experts from Lusaka Local Authority, Zambia Police and ZESCO are still investigating the cause of the fire.
This is according to a media statement made available to The Independent Observer by Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo.
