The Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja has described yesterday’s riots in Chingola as unfortunate in which property of innocent members of the public was destroyed and stolen.
Mr Kanganja said he was aware of the security situation in the district including some families that were affected as a result of the prevailing insecurity.
He has assuring members of the public that officers are doing everything possible to have the perpetrators of the heinous crime brought to book.
Mr Kanganja said he has mobilized and deployed enough man power to provide security and beef up on the current strength so as to enhance investigations.
He has called upon all Chingola residents to remain calm and join hands with the police in this mission of tracking and bringing to book perpetrators of this crime.
The IG has also advised members of the public to desist from taking the law in to their hands.
Mr Kanganja has also warned those found breaking the law under the pretext of expressing their displeasure will also be visited by the law.
“My command has information on criminal elements who have taken advantage of the volatile situation in the district to instigate violence as well as commit other forms of crimes such as breaking of shops and looting.
“My timely advice to those with such ill intentions is that they should refrain from doing so or begin counting their days as police will catch up with them,” he said.
