IG calls for peace in Katuba By-Elections

By ALICE NACHILEMBE
Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja has called for peace by all political players in the Katuba Constituency and Ward By-Elections.
Mr Kanganja said political parties should avoid spoiling the peaceful environment that has prevailed in Katuba constituency and other areas from the time campaigns commenced.
He said the police have information regarding criminal minded people who are planning to incite others to bring disturbances and violence.
“The tendency of ambushing the peace-loving electorates by some people as experienced in previous by-elections will not be tolerated. The Zambia police service is more than determined and ready to bring the perpetrators to book,” he said.
Mr Kanganja said preventive measures would be taken as more police officers have been deployed to beef up the current manpower to enhance security.
He has re-assurance people of Katuba constituency and other parts of the country where by-elections are taking place that police will ensure those areas are violence free during and after the elections.
Mr Kanganja has expressed gratitude towards the electorate for refusing and denouncing violence.
He has urged them to report, perpetrators and inciters of violence so that they are brought to book.
