A-37- year old pregnant woman of Chingola’s Kabuba block has been beaten to death by her husband.
It is alleged that Lobina Nayembe was beaten by John Simbeye 62 who was upset that his wife had refused to eat his food.
Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba said the incident happened on January 26, 2023 at around 19:00hours.
Mr Mweemba said that Ms Nayembe was taken to Kabuta clinic after she woke up complaining of pains.
He said that the bleeding became severe, and was referred to Nchanga North general hospital and later to Kitwe Teaching hospital where she died on January 27 2023 around 1600 hrs.
“Brief facts are that on January 26, 2023 at around 0600hrs, the victim went to the field with her husband and her son. When they knocked off, they asked their son to go home and remained at shabeen drinking beer. After some time, both went home. At home, they didn’t find their son Lewis Mushinge. He had gone out playing with his friends. When he returned home, he found his mother, who was 5 months pregnant, lying on the ground, and his stepfather was holding a bamboo stick in his hands.”
“Upon seeing the child, he told him that he was going to beat his mother because she had refused to eat food and later threw the stick on the fire. Thereafter, they all retired to bed. The following morning, his mother complained that she was not feeling well. She was taken to Katuba Clinic, where she had a miscarriage in the toilet,” he said.
Mr Mweemba said that investigations have since been instituted into the matter and officer been advised to detain the suspect until postmortem results prove otherwise.
