The United Party for National Development UPND on the Copperbelt Province says the party is ready to usher in Hakainde Hichilima as the next president of Zambia with a landslide victory in the August 12 general elections.
UPND Copperbelt provincial Chairperson Elisha Matambo said the electorates in the province are ready to remove the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) party from power even when the country is facing the Covid-19 pandemic.
Mr Matambo said the party is on course with the campaigns and are strictly following the Covid-19 guidelines as prescribed by the Electoral Commission of Zambia and the Ministry of Health.
“Mobilization through radio and door to door are on course and as a party we are ready for the elections. These mobilization programs are been carried strictly following Covid-19 guidelines,” he said.
He said despite the challenges of having party posters and billboards removed by some thugs in the province, the party is confident that the people Copperbelt have already made a decision on who they want as the next president of Zambia.
Mr Matambo said the pulling down of the Hakainde Hichilema’s billboards with the latest been in Ndola last night,is a sure sign that some political party is scared of the UPND stating that such acts are a desperate effort of the dying horse’s last kicks.
He added that no act of violence or intimidation will change the minds of the electorates.
“The people already have the UPND leader’s billboards engraved in there hearts. The removal of posters and billboards is just de-campaigning the PF as the people are ready to give the UPND a landslide victory next month. It is unfortunate that this is been done in the night,” he said.
Mr Matambo has since urged the police to be vigilant and bring to book the perpetrators of the vice to bring normalcy to the campaigns.
