Hauloads sends SOS to its truck drivers

By JOHN SAKALA
Hauloads together with its sister company Cargo to Congo (C2C) have sent food stuffs, water and sanitary paper to its drivers who are heading to the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Speaking when he handed over the assorted items, Hauloads Operational Manager Andy Mpundu said the company was concerned with lack of access to clean drinking water by the drivers.

Mr Mpundu (in red T-Shirt) said drivers are given allowances but due to the congestion leading to Congo drivers were meant to follow the queue thereby having no nearby roadside shop where they buy clean water.

He said due to delays the allowances that were given to them have had been exhausted.

“The Director of the Company Ken Hall himself is in town because he wanted to have a feel of the problem. And he has sympathized with drivers that is why he has sent us here to give you some food stuffs especially clean water so that you are not made to drink from contaminated sources.

“This is a supplementary from the company and the items given will not be deducted from your salary. We sympathize with you and we value your effort,” he said.

Each driver was receiving a 10 kilogram bag of mealie meal, bottle of cooking oil, filler of eggs, canned fish and beans, sanitary paper, case of water and salt.

In appreciation, C2C driver Norman Pakanati said the gesture shows how much the drivers are appreciated by the company.

And Hauloads Acid tanker driver Paison Kunda said the drivers were not even expecting the gesture.

Mr Kunda said other drivers will see how caring the company is to its drivers.

The company is targeting to give 40 truck drivers today on the Congo route.
