Government has unearthed a scam where some senior members of staff at Bulaya Primary School in Lufwanyama District are illegally cutting down trees at the School for their private Charcoal business.
A team of District Government officials led by Lufwanyama District Commissioner Justin Mwalikwa visited the scene after a tip of from concerned community members.
Mr. Mwalikwa said he was shocked to discover that a huge chunk of land which had trees to help as wind breakers to the learning infrastructure have been indiscriminately cut .
He says it is disappointing that teachers who are supposed to be in the forefront of protecting trees are the ones degrading the environment.
The District Commissioner has since instructed the relevant authorities to bring the culprits to book.
Meanwhile Lufwanyama district forestry offer Darius Angolwishe who accompanied the DC revealed that over one point five hectors of land has been destroyed so far . ZANIS.
