Mine workers Union of Zambia (MUZ) has disclosed that the union has successfully concluded negotiations for improved conditions of service for employees at GRN contractors an Indian owned company contracted by Konkola copper Mines in Chingola.

Speaking during a press briefing held at Garden Court in Kitwe, MUZ President Joseph Chewe said GRN agreed to award all its unionized employees a 10 percent salary increment across the board after extensive negotiations with management and the union.

Mr Chewe expressed gratitude to GRN Company for agreeing to award its workers a 10 percent increment despite the challenges that KCM has been facing.

“The increment will motivate workers thereby increasing productivity in the mining company and uplifting their livelihoods. We implore other mining companies to emulate what GRN company has done to their employees in the mining industry

He said MUZ will soon begin the bargaining process with other mining companies.

And on the issue of mistreatment of workers at Kalumbila mine in North western province, Mr Chewe said MUZ had summoned their Kalumbila chairman to Kitwe.

“We need to get more information and the findings will be revealed to media on Thursday,” he said.
